Tired of winter yet? As predicted, our mild temperatures aren’t the sort that send you into hibernation. But, with the natural letdown that comes with the end of the holidays and the start of the inversion season, comes a temptation to stay in place.
And you know what they say about an object at rest … it doesn’t do a body good.
Don’t despair, though. Your local and special service districts offer a number of ways to get through and even enjoy the countdown to spring. Here are a few things to consider:
• Tired of driving through the haze? Look into our public transit system and let us do the driving. It’s more than just a way to catch an extra hour of leisure at the beginning of the workday – and cooling down afterwards. You are lowering your ecological footprint!
• Check in with your parks and recreation districts for a full winter of family activity. Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area is a great example, offering everything from water aerobics to an ice arena, all indoors. What is going on right around the corner from you?
• Watch for news from our water districts on potential ice fishing tournaments, such as the When Hailstone Freezes Over event coming in February to the Central Utah Water Conservancy District’s Jordanelle reservoir, weather permitting. And send a “let it snow” vibe their way, too. Our districts would love nothing more than a drought-breaking spring run-off!
• Start thinking about spring, and ways you can turn your yard into a water-efficient landscape. It is easy with our water district’s gardens, such as the Conservation Garden Park in West Jordan, offering details through videos, blogs and educational workshops. You’ll have everything in place before the first planting.
