The new year is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to start thinking about what you want your district to accomplish in 2016. Do you want to strengthen communication between board members or maybe try to get the community more involved with your district so they can see how the district serves them? There are lots of ways you can improve your district and setting those goals is a great way to start.
When you’re ready to decide on your goals, the next step is to write them down and post them in a place where people can see them. When your goals are written down, there is a better likelihood that they will be accomplished.
If helping board members communicate better is a goal you want to accomplish, there are lots of ways to do that. We have many kinds of training available that can help your board members to communicate better. Some members may have trouble speaking in a large group, so a more private way to share thoughts and ideas could be a possibility.
Most people don’t realize the special districts they are apart of simply by where they live. If you’d like to reach out more to the people in your community, there are many ways to do this. During the winter there are usually health and safety fairs put on by groups in the community. You could most likely get booth space for little or no money. This would allow you to interact with people in your community and help foster those relationships.
These are just a few ways you could try to improve your district in the new year. Goals can truly be as easy or complex as you want them to be. Even if you don’t reach all your goals, you’re still working toward improving your district and that means a win for everyone involved.
