Following the Utah Legislature online

You don’t have to be on Capitol Hill to follow the 2021 Utah State General Legislative Session! With resources online at https://le.utah.gov, Utahns can review bills, listen to committee and general session meetings and submit input from virtually anywhere.

The first step is to create a Legislative account. While an account is not needed for many of the features, if you are interested in tracking bills or commenting on proposed legislation, it is necessary. On the upper right corner, click on login, and you will be instructed on how to create an account and password.

Now to find bills of interest. On the top bar, hover over Bills and select Browse by Session. It should auto populate to the 2021 General Session (if not, select from drop down menu). You can then search for bills by sponsor, subject or committee. If logged in with your account, you can select the option to track a bill and request email notices of any developments. With hundreds of bills submitted each year, this makes it easy to follow those of particular interest.

In the Resources section, you will find helpful information, including Quick Links worth exploring! Upcoming Agendas can be accessed as well as Live Streams of meetings in real time. You will find a list of New Bills to review and a link to Budget matters (COBI). It also includes a PDF file with instructions on how to participate in a virtual committee meeting:

All significant session dates can be found under the Calendar heading. The calendar can be viewed by week or month. Each date will list the meetings by committee, scheduled time, the agenda and an arrow to access the audio. Clicking the meeting title will also access information about all scheduled meetings for that committee and the members of the committee. After the meeting, minutes will be posted as well.

The heading Legislators provides contact information, including mailing and email addresses and phone numbers, for House and Senate members. You can search for your own representatives or click More Legislator Information for information on all members, including seating charts and a list of current leadership.
