It’s almost that special time of year: convention is close! Yes, the latest version of the UASD Annual Convention promises to be an event where we help you work through some of the difficulties that you may be facing in today’s climate.
The convention will be taking place Nov. 2-4 at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah. The theme itself is part of that difference: “Districts: Working Together In Challenging Times.” To that end, there will be a focus on service concerns, including irrigation, drainage, mosquito control, electric, fire protection and flood control, among many others.
Throughout the convention there will exhibits from associate members of the UASD. There are also some chances for networking and even some fun entertainment options to make the long weekend complete.
We want to give you a good idea of what to expect at this year’s convention, especially what makes it different from past ones.
Wednesday’s events
The convention begins with not only valuable info for board members, management and staff, but also a resource for management to provide district staff with training on statutory requirements and operational issues. Plus, this can all take place in a single afternoon.
There is a “Wednesday Only” registration option available for those who want to attend only the sessions that cover their responsibilities in a district.
Thursday’s events
Among the highlights on Thursday is the keynote speaker. Gov. Spencer Cox has been invited to attend. There also will be a presentation on cybersecurity, procurement policy updates and updates on current resources to solve concerns.
The afternoon sessions on Thursday include topics on applying for grants, communicating messages, rates and revenues, and emergency preparedness. The evening ends with the annual awards banquet and entertainment.
Friday’s event
For breakfast on Friday, speaker Mauli Bonner will talk about his life as a film director and musician. A review of the 2023 legislative package will follow.
Going beyond the convention
Visiting the convention website on the UASD’s regular website will lead you to the registration, more detailed agenda items and other resources to help you make it a great experience for you and your staff.
Even when the convention isn’t in town, the UASD can help with your own district. He can help with training resources, lobbying your concerns with the legislature and the paperwork needed for you to be compliant with state rules. Learn about everything we can do for you by going to our website.
