No doubt you’ve heard the famous saying from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus: “Change is the only constant in life.” As the last few years have taught us, changes need to be navigated to keep thriving on our own personal, business, and life journeys.
This is a big reason we’ve decided to make “Adapting To Change” the theme of our 34th UASD annual convention. It takes place Nov. 8, 9, and 10 at Davis Conference Center, 1651 N. 700 St., in Layton.
As with every convention we organize, there are some constants: registrations and exhibits open all day, a full day of annual training, guest speakers, and socializing opportunities so you can meet and network with other district members. Here’s a look at what will be a part of this year’s convention, day by day.
Wednesday sessions
The bulk of the afternoon will be spent in training sessions. There are opportunities for newly elected or appointed board members to receive annual certifications. There is the annual open meetings training for all board members, and there is also personnel officer training for people who need to fulfill that statutory training requirement.
In addition, there will be training sessions for the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA), which covers district staff or members who have access to those records and need to be adequately trained on how they are administered under Utah law. The night concludes with our annual meet-and-great evening session, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday sessions
The general session this year, taking place in the morning, includes these main topics:
Afternoon breakout sessions include topics such as earthquake preparedness, the use of AI, federal website compliance laws, infrastructure and growth management, managing marijuana and workplace drug compliance, and working with local government partners, among other topics to be announced.
The night concludes with our annual awards banquet, where we honor those who’ve done the best work for the residents that we serve.
Friday sessions
The convention ends with one more morning session. It includes a breakfast speaker to be announced, as well as a full review of the 2024 legislative package as it will stand by convention time. This will be a thorough preview of what you can expect when the governing body meets again this January.
How to register
Note that there is an option for Wednesday-only registration if staff and board members need their annual training and certification. To register in any capacity, visit our convention website.
