Imagine standing in a crowded room. Everyone is talking at once and much of what what they are saying seems to be in a different language. You have a limited amount of time and a message to share – an important one. Yet, to your dismay, very few in the room seem to hear you.
Suddenly, you realize you are not alone in this sea of people; someone else is there beside you. They have a microphone and an innate understanding of what is being said. They listen to your message, take careful notes and get to work. You watch as your new-found friend skillfully navigates the noisy room, spreading your message in a way that you, alone, could not.
This is part what the Utah Association of Special Districts aims to accomplish for all districts in the State of Utah. We are the individual with the microphone. We speak the language of the legislature. We understand how to navigate the complexities of our state government and we have the resources to do so.
In short, we are here to advocate on behalf of each and every district in the state.
Every year, there are a myriad of topics and issues placed before our elected leaders. Many of those topics directly or indirectly impact one or more districts in the state. For individual districts, it can be hard to keep track of the laundry list of potential bills and even harder to generate a voice that’s loud enough to be heard.
It is our job to stay on top of those issues, to listen to your concerns and to act as your voice to ensure that the decision makers on Capitol Hill know and understand the effects their decisions will have on your district. In turn, we report our findings back to you.
Of course, advocacy is only one part of what we offer.
As a member district, you not only reap the benefits of unifying your voice with hundreds of other local and special districts operating throughout Utah, you also gain access to our treasure trove of information and resources. We offer training, a comprehensive analysis of current and past legislative discussions and much more.
If you are interested in becoming a member district or looking to take full advantage of your current membership, please give us a call or visit us at uasd.org to learn more.
