So, did you catch your breath yet?
Good, because the interim legislative sessions are beginning again. We strongly encourage you to attend those that address your local or special service district’s purpose. It’s also a great time to find out what’s being considered and to acquaint our lawmakers with your operations.
Always feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or questions regarding items you see on the committee meeting agendas.
Here are a few things to note:
• While meetings are typically scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month at the Utah State Capitol, 350 N. State in Salt Lake City, make sure to check the Utah legislative page for others added in the days before and after it. (No meetings are scheduled for September at this point.) Check the list again before heading out as they’re often revised – and marked with a red REVISED on the calendar entry. You don’t want to get there only to find the agenda has changed.
• Upcoming meetings address, on May 23, the Retirement and Independent Entities Interim Committee, and on May 24, the Health Reform Task Force. To learn more, check out the links on our website UASD.org. As a meeting nears, you can also return to our listing for updates on the agenda.
• Finally, never underestimate the power of a strong handshake and a big smile. This is your opportunity to establish a relationship with the legislators representing your region, laying the groundwork for next year’s general session. The more they know about what you do and how important it is to your fellow Utahns, the more likely they are to share your mission.
